Reports say an Iraqi militia figure linked to the Iranian-backed group Kataib Hezbollah has been arrested in Turkey and transferred to U.S. custody to face terrorism-related charges. The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Mohammad Baqer Saad Dawood al-Saadi, is accused by U.S. authorities of involvement in planning attacks connected to Iran-backed militant activity.
According to reports, investigators allege that al-Saadi was involved in plots targeting Jewish locations and other potential targets. Additional claims published by the New York Post suggest that he had expressed intentions to target members of former President Donald Trump’s family, including Ivanka Trump, allegedly in retaliation for the 2020 U.S. drone strike that killed Iranian military commander Qasem Soleimani in Baghdad.
Sources cited in the report claimed al-Saadi had discussed revenge against the Trump family and allegedly possessed information related to Ivanka Trump’s Florida residence. Authorities have not publicly confirmed all details of those claims.
Investigators have described al-Saadi as a figure connected to Iran’s broader network of overseas militant operations. Prosecutors allege that his activities were part of efforts by Iran-backed groups to carry out attacks beyond the Middle East.
The case highlights ongoing concerns among U.S. officials about threats from foreign-backed extremist organizations and the potential for retaliatory violence linked to past military actions. As the legal process moves forward, authorities are expected to present further evidence regarding the allegations against al-Saadi.
