The annual White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner, traditionally known for political humor and networking among journalists, government officials, and celebrities, was abruptly disrupted Saturday evening by a serious security incident. What began as a celebration quickly turned into a scene of confusion as law enforcement responded to an armed suspect near the event.

According to authorities, a man identified as Cole Allen was taken into custody in the hotel lobby after allegedly attempting to force his way through a security checkpoint. Officials said he was carrying a shotgun and several knives when Secret Service agents intervened. During the confrontation, one agent was struck by gunfire but survived because a ballistic vest prevented life-threatening injuries.

Investigators believe the suspect acted alone, and police stated there was no continuing threat to the public after the arrest. President Donald Trump later praised the swift response of the Secret Service and other law enforcement personnel, crediting them with preventing a more serious tragedy.

Following the incident, organizers initially considered continuing the dinner but ultimately canceled the remainder of the evening. Authorities also began searching the suspect’s California residence as part of the ongoing investigation. The security breach has prompted officials to review protective procedures for future high-profile events held in the nation’s capital.
