The annual White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner was unexpectedly canceled Saturday night after a major security incident at the Washington Hilton. The event, which traditionally brings together journalists, political leaders, and government officials, was interrupted when security personnel responded to a potential threat inside the venue.
Authorities reported that a suspect identified as Cole Allen was detained after allegedly attempting to enter a restricted area. Law enforcement officials said he was carrying a shotgun and several knives. Secret Service agents quickly intervened, preventing the individual from reaching protected guests.
During the response, a Secret Service agent was injured but survived, with officials crediting protective equipment for preventing more serious harm. President Donald Trump later praised the swift actions of security personnel and law enforcement officers.
Although organizers briefly considered proceeding with the evening’s schedule, the White House Correspondents’ Association ultimately canceled the event. Investigators continue examining the suspect’s background while reviewing security measures for future high-profile gatherings.
