Iran’s most senior clerics have issued a statement calling for the assassinations of President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, declaring both leaders mahdour al-dam, a term meaning they are considered deserving of death under their interpretation of religious law.
The 88-member Assembly of Experts, the body responsible for selecting and overseeing Iran’s supreme leader, released a 10-point declaration describing the killings as a religious obligation. The statement claimed that avenging Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was of the highest importance and urged anyone with the opportunity to act against the two leaders.
The declaration also accused the United States and Israel of using ongoing cease-fire negotiations as a strategy to prepare for future military action. According to the clerics, the agreement between Iran and the United States includes deadlines that must be met to avoid renewed conflict, warning that another attack remains highly possible.
At the same time, the Iranian newspaper Hamshahri published a front-page image depicting Trump’s face in the crosshairs of a rifle scope alongside the headline, “Revenge is certain.”
The statement concluded by urging supporters of Iran’s government to rally publicly in support of the country’s leadership, describing public participation as essential during the current period of heightened regional tensions.
