ROBERT F KENNEDY JR: The future of medicine should be built in America

The United States has long been a global leader in clinical research and medical innovation, but growing competition from China is raising concerns about America’s position. Recent reports show China now conducts more early-stage clinical trials than the U.S. and accounts for a significant share of global pharmaceutical licensing activity.

Clinical trials play a critical role in developing new treatments, confirming safety and effectiveness, and bringing medical breakthroughs to patients. They also attract investment, skilled workers, and research infrastructure that support long-term innovation.

To strengthen America’s leadership, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has launched a coordinated effort involving multiple agencies, including the FDA and NIH. The initiative aims to streamline clinical trials, reduce unnecessary delays, improve patient enrollment, and expand the use of technologies such as artificial intelligence and real-world data.

Officials say these reforms will help accelerate medical innovation while maintaining strong standards for patient safety, scientific integrity, transparency, and informed consent.
